AGL Electricity Review 2026
AGL is Australia's biggest energy retailer. About 4.5 million customers. Being big does not mean being cheap. In fact, AGL's default offer is usually more expensive than most competitors. But their market offers can be decent if you know which one to pick.
Rates from ~28c/kWh usage, ~110c/day supply (NSW). Varies by state. Last updated June 2026.
The Short Version
AGL wins on solar. Their feed-in tariff for new solar customers is among the highest in the market (up to 15c/kWh in some states). If you have panels, that tilts the math in AGL's favour. For non-solar households, AGL's rates are middle of the pack, and you can probably do better with a smaller retailer. Their app is decent. Their call centre is not. If you value being able to talk to a human about your bill, look elsewhere.
What I Like
- Best solar feed-in tariff among big 3 retailers
- AGL Rewards program (discounts on groceries, fuel)
- App is actually usable (unlike some competitors)
- Green energy options available
What Could Be Better
- Default standing offer is expensive
- Call centre wait times are among the worst in the industry
- Discount off reference price is smaller than Origin or EnergyAustralia
- Lock-in contracts on some plans

Who Should Get AGL
The 15c feed-in tariff is hard to beat. If you export more than you use during the day, AGL probably wins on net cost.
AGL's app lets you track usage, pay bills, and switch plans. It works. Just do not call them unless you have an hour to spare.
Some AGL plans have lock-in contracts with exit fees. If you might move in the next 12 months, pick a no lock-in plan.
My Take
I spent 8 years in solar. I know how much a good feed-in tariff matters to the annual bill. AGL's 15c is genuinely good. If you have panels and do not want to spend hours comparing every small retailer, AGL is the easy answer among the big guys. If you do not have solar, keep shopping. Origin or a smaller player like OVO or Powershop will probably save you more.
